The star will ‘never again’ do what he was forced to comply with in 2023/24 campaign

Arsenal are said to have rejected a bid from Southampton for Aaron Ramsdale with the latter said to be seeking a summer move which will provide him with more game time as the 2024/25 campaign progresses.

The Gunners’ Premier League rivals Southampton are said to have made a formal first approach, but their bid is said to have not meet Arsenal’s requirements and the south coast side are now holding further talks in order to bring the England international to St Mary’s Stadium before Friday’s Deadline Day. Southampton are also said to be ‘positive’ that they can get the deal done but it remains to be seen if they can comply with Arsenal’s alleged demands.

According to TeamTalk, Mikel Arteta’s side are demanding that all of the goalkeeper’s wages are covered as part of any loan agreement. Arsenal are also insisting on receiving a further £5m loan fee.

26-year-old Ramsdale has been on the verge of an Emirates departure all summer with Wolves previously looking like the most likely destination. However, the Molineux Stadium side are now reportedly after Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone, with Wolves tipped to pay £10 million for the 31-year-old.

This leaves former Bournemouth goalkeeper once again without a club and still second in the Gunners’ pecking order - a situation which he claimed he would ‘never’ do again. Speaking to the press earlier this summer, the ex-Sheffield United glovesman suggested he would not be spending another season warming up the bench, saying: “No footballer wants to not play. I’ve had a tough year personally not playing and I never want to do that again.”

Russell Martin’s squad are desperately searching for a new goalkeeper after their number one choice Gavin Bazunu suffered an Achilles tendon rupture that is likely to keep him out of action until at least January. While Arsenal are said to be willing to let Ramsdale leave, it’s evident his club exit will only be on their terms.

If Ramsdale does depart the north London club, Arteta is said to be exploring a deal for the Wigan Athletic star Sam Tickle as well as Espanyol’s Joan Garcia with the latter coming in as an understudy to compatriot David Raya.
