Arsenal should sell Mikel Arteta favourite after club get 'in touch' with player's agent

Arsenal could receive an approach for a player they should consider selling this summer.

Arsenal may have a decision to make over a player who was a regular last season. The Gunners have added new players aplenty already this season, with Noni Madueke the latest to arrive, penning a long-term deal after arriving on a £52million move from Chelsea.

“I’ve just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me,” Madueke told the club website upon arrival. “It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house! It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step.”

He added: “I feel like everyone here, all the players here in the team are established Premier League players in their own right and I'd like to say I am as well. I try and be a dual threat from the left and from the right. Of course, it's a little different when I play on the left or when I play on the right, but it doesn't really matter to me where I play. I only really have one thought in my mind when I get the ball to feet or in space, it is just to line up the full-back and go past him, so that's definitely one of my main strengths.”

Mikel Arteta now has some decisions to make when it comes to his attack having added important depth out wide, while there is talk they could still add another winger. One player who could be expended is Leandro Trossard, who played in every Premier League game last season.

There is reported interest from Bayern Munich this summer, too, with Christian Falk telling CFBayern: “Leandro Trossard is a new idea. Gabriel Martinelli has been on the list for longer. Bayern had contact with the Arsenal winger’s management, but in the meantime, the club also got in touch with Trossard’s management. This is because he has had a new agent from Germany since July.

“His name is Dirk Hebel – he’s the agent of Marco Reus. Reus, at the time, played for Gladbach when Max Eberl was the sporting director, and was sold to Dortmund. It was a big transfer for Gladbach, with BVB activating a €17.5m [£15.1m] release clause. I heard there was also contact with the management again because of this player. So he is definitely on the list, like Martinelli, and I know that Arsenal want to give him a new contract. But I think Bayern Munich can offer more.”

Arsenal should sell Trossard

Trossard was a wise signing from Arsenal, but he has now served his purpose at the Emirates Stadium. If Arsenal want to become a title-winning team, they need to have standards that Trossard is not going to be able to live up to. As a squad player, the Belgian would be ideal, but he is too good and experienced a player to be playing a handful of games per season - that is a role for a very young or older player and not one in his prime.

Behind Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Ethan Nwaneri and Noni Madueke, Trossard is not going to play, and that will only increase in likelihood if another winger is signed. The Belgian could be kept around as a sort of back-up to Martin Odegaard, but he didn’t thrive in that position last season, and you could certainly argue that Mikel Merino would be more effective there. Arsenal are going to need to balance their spending this summer, at least to some degree, and Trossard is an expendable asset as they look to take a step forward.
