Arsenal target 'open' to blockbuster £50m transfer switch as Gunners earmark Bukayo Saka replacement
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both reportedly interested in the Premier League winger.
Arsenal are keen to add attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window, as they aim to keep pace with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta’s side won 3-0 in their last game which came against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. They face a game against Wolves at the weekend, where they will get a closer look at transfer target striker Matheus Cunha.
The Gunners sit second in the Premier League, six points away from Liverpool, who also have a game in hand, after the Merseyside Derby was postponed due to weather conditions in early December.
Arsenal will need to ensure their squad is as strong as possible after the January window. With star winger Bukayo Saka likely out injured until late March at the earliest, they have been linked with a potential replacement.
Arsenal linked with Bournemouth star Semenyo
The Gunners have been linked with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, who is having a career season for the Cherries under Andoni Iraola. He has scored seven goals in 23 games in all competitions and also contributed four assists.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal have made Semenyo their priority target at the winger position in order to replace Saka this month. The report suggests that Bournemouth want to keep hold of the 25-year-old, setting a valuation of £50m for his signature.
Semenyo has only been at the Vitality Stadium for two years after joining from Championship side Bristol City for £8.6m in January 2023. He has since made 70 appearances for the Cherries, scoring 16 goals and six assists.
His Bournemouth side look outside contenders to push for a European spot in the Premier League, as they sit seventh in the table, three points off the top four. The report says that Semenyo is open to a move away, as he looks to prove himself at the top level of the Premier League.
Arsenal face competition from Premier League rivals to sign Semenyo
The Gunners aren’t the only top English club considering a January transfer move for Semenyo. Tottenham are also said to be keen, as they are also struggling with injuries themselves.
Winger Brennan Johnson has been ruled out for several weeks, so Ange Postecoglou would be keen to add a wide player to help his squad depth in that area of the pitch.
Liverpool are also said to be keen on signing Semenyo as they look ahead to what life could be like without talisman Mo Salah, who is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield. Despite not signing a new deal with Liverpool, Salah has scored 18 goals in 21 Premier League matches, making him the current front-runner for the Golden Boot.
