Arsenal pocket staggering £1,615,000 from World Cup break with 10 stars heading to Qatar

Arsenal will not like the timing of the World Cup break but they will be comforted by the fact most of their stairs are heading to Qatar.

The Premier League has been paused for the World Cup and for the next four weeks the eyes of the World will be on Qatar as FIFA hosts its first ever World Cup in the middle of the season.

The Gunners will feel hard done by, as they were looking good and in great shape in the league. There is the little hint that they could lose momentum if the break is too long and some players pick up injury- but there isn’t much they can do about the World Cup taking centre-stage.

Mikel Arteta’s side have 37 points, that is five more than second placed Manchester City and they are guaranteed to be top of the table at Christmas. The fine start to the season has seen as many as 10 players called up to their various national teams for the World Cup.

FIFA is paying clubs £8,500 a day per player and the calculation is made six days to the start of the tournament and throughout the group stage that brings the figure the Gunners will earn to 1,615,000. There is a high chance that some of the players will make it to the last stages of the tournament and the further they travel the more the club receives more money.

Mikel Arteta has transformed the side and they look a different team to the one which lost against Newcastle last season and missed out on top four to Tottenham, they have already avenged the defeat to Spurs and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

At the beginning of the season, the target was to return Champions League football to the Emirates, but a brilliant start to the campaign has opened the door for more and top four is now viewed as a minimum requirement.
