Arsenal failed to retake top spot in the Premier League after suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to London rivals West Ham United on Thursday evening. The Gunners went behind in the 13th minute after a defensive mix-up and struggled to break down the Hammers' deep block after that point.
David Moyes' men added a second in the 55th minute when Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home from a corner, and they defended valiantly before to pick up a huge three points at the Emirates Stadium, denying Arsenal the chance to climb back above Liverpool. Here we rate the Gunners players from a frustrating night for Mikel Arteta and his men.
1. David Raya - 7
Let down by those in front of him for the opener, and not much he could have done for the second, either. Produced a fine save to deny a third from the spot deep into stoppage time, and he gets an extra point for his troubles.
2. Ben White - 6
Got forward a lot and attempted to aid attacks. Caught out of position for the first goal, but that may have been down to Arteta asking him to play on the front foot.
3. William Saliba - 5
Painfully shy in attempting to block the cross that led to the first goal. Reactions seemed a little slow in this one, although he was generally solid.
4. Gabriel Magalhaes - 3
Lack of communication led to a mix up with Zinchenko for the first goal. Both players were at fault. He was let down by Zinchenko for the second, but he still should have reacted quicker to win the header. Ultimately, he was beaten in the air.
