Arsenal are considering a surprise move for Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard this month, according to MediaFoot. The Belgian has failed to make the desired impact during his time with the Spanish giants.

Despite enduring a disappointing spell with Real Madrid that has been littered with injuries, Hazard is still considered to be one of the best when he was in his prime due to his huge success at Chelsea. The winger joined the Blues from Lille in 2012 and spent seven years at Stamford Bridge - scoring an impressive 110 goals and providing 92 assists in 352 appearances.

After falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, Hazard has only managed one start in La Liga this season and could be handed an escape route by Arsenal during the January transfer window. The Gunners are desperate to bolster their attack before deadline day following the injury to Gabriel Jesus and are hopeful of luring Mykhailo Mudryk away from Shakhtar Donetsk, however a deal is proving difficult to complete and they could look to Hazard as an alternative.

However, given that the 32-year-old has managed only two goals for Real Madrid since the 2020/21 season and has been sidelined with injury for over 450 days in total since arriving at the club in 2019, a move for Hazard seems like an extremely risky one for Arsenal this month. Los Blancos could allow the Belgium international to leave on loan to the Emirates Stadium, however Hazard is currently said to be earning a whopping £384,000 a month at the Santiago Bernabeu and is unlikely to pay off such a hefty salary with the goal contributions required by Jesus’ temporary replacement.

Meanwhile, Arsenal remain in the race to sign Mudryk and he remains their main priority this month. They are yet to meet Shakhtar’s £85m asking price and are under increasing pressure as Chelsea look to better any potential offer for their London rivals, however it is believed that Mikel Arteta’s side are still confident of securing a deal for the Ukrainian.
