A forgotten man at Arsenal could finally be about to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares could finally see his time at the Emirates Stadium come to an end in the next couple of weeks - Turkish giants Besiktas are set to ramp up their efforts to snap him up over the course of the January transfer window.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Cedric is a 'serious target' for Besiktas this month. He could join them on a loan deal or on a permanent basis - the nature of his move to the Turkish Super League remains unclear as of yet, but the Black Eagles' interest in the player remains apparent.

Does Cedric Soares have a future at Arsenal?

While Cedric certainly has his talents, being a serviceable full-back who is capable of playing on both flanks, it has become increasingly clear that Mikel Arteta does not have a place for the former Portuguese international in his squad. Moreover, at the age of 32, his best years are now seemingly well behind him. This season, he has made just two appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, with none of these coming in the league.

He has never been a regular first-team player at Arsenal, even when he joined the club back in 2020. Since then, he has made just 38 appearances in the Premier League, scoring a pair of goals along the way. Last season, he experienced a spell out on loan at Fulham, but was only handed six appearances in England's top flight during his time at Craven Cottage.

His contract at Arsenal is set to come to an end in the summer, with no new deal on the horizon. It would make a lot of sense for Arsenal to sell him to Besiktas now, even for a minimal fee - it would be better than losing him on a free transfer at the current campaign's conclusion.
