Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Canadian international goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo on a permanent transfer.

D’Angelo, 29, had been linked heavily with the club in recent weeks and joins Jonas Eidevall’s side following a four-year spell with Swedish side Vittsjo GIK in the Damallsvenskan.

She becomes the club’s third January transfer after the captures of Victoria Pelova and Kathrine Kuhl - the former confirmed exclusively by LondonWorld in December.

“It feels amazing – it’s an honour to be here and I’m so excited to get started with the team,” said the Canadian stopper.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Arsenal Women and I want to help the team to win trophies and achieve success for our wonderful supporters.”

Head Coach Eidevall added: “We’re delighted to have signed Sabrina. She is a top goalkeeper with plenty of experience in both Europe and North America and we’re confident that she will be a strong addition to our squad.”

A 24 capped international, D’Angelo formed part of the Canadian Olympic squad that won a bronze medal in the summer of 2016 having become a full Canada international earlier that year.

D’Angelo began her career with Toronto Lady Lynx in 2010 before heading to the United States to represent South Carolina Gamecocks at college level in the United States.

A stint with Western New York Flash in 2015 saw her lift the National Women’s Soccer League crown in 2016, before moving in 2017 to North Carolina Courage, where she won consecutive NWSL Shields in 2017 and 2018 in addition to her second NWSL title in 2018.

The move to Vittsjo GIK in Sweden followed in 2019, with Sabrina making 70 appearances in total for the Damallsvenskan side. The Gunners have confirmed she will wear the No.14 shirt at the club.

Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “Sabrina is an excellent goalkeeper and a great character so we are very pleased to have brought her to Arsenal. She has a proven track record with experience at both club and international level and we look forward to seeing her in action soon.”

Arsenal will return to Women’s Super League action on Sunday, with over 40,000 tickets sold for the top of the table clash against Chelsea at the Emirates. Tickets are available here.
