Both the Blues and Arsenal are in pursuit of Arne Slot’s Liverpool who sit on top of both the Premier League and Champions League at the halfway point in the season. Arteta and Maresca will be keen to go on a good run of form in order to catch up to the Reds. Following the Christmas period, Opta Analyst has run a new simulation of the season with their super computer predicting each team’s chance of winning the league title. Liverpool remain the favourites as it suggests that they have a 91.3% chance to win the Premier League.

Arsenal’s chances in the Premier League title race

According to the super computer, the Gunners have a 7.7% chance to win the league this season and are expected to finish second in the league table come the end of the campaign If that is true, it will be the third season in a row in which the Gunners have come second in the league. The previous two years, they lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City rather than Liverpool.

It would mean that Arsenal’s 20-year wait for their first league title since the 2003/04 season would continue. Arteta will hope that his side can increase their 7.7% chance to win over the coming weeks. The Gunners play against rivals Chelsea in March, whereas, they have to wait until May to play Liverpool in what will be their third-last game of the season this year.

It will be Chelsea’s fourth-last game of the season, meaning that the Reds will play both Chelsea and Arsenal during their run in. Maresca’s side will then play Newcastle, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest to finish off their season with the hopes of a chance at silverware.
