Arsenal and Chelsea blow as Man Utd offered 'discount' for £63m goal machine

The Victor Osimhen transfer saga continues with Manchester United man Alejandro Garnacho now having a part to play.

Manchester United could be offered a discount on the price of in-demand striker Victor Osimhen this month in what would be a blow for Arsenal and Chelsea given the London clubs' longstanding interest in the Nigeria international.

Osimhen is on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli this season but the striker can be recalled by his parent club should an offer for his services that meets their valuation come in. Italian outlet Il Mattino holds that asking price at £63 million but today claims that the Red Devils may be able to see a lower offer accepted.

That is a feather in the cap of the Red Devils with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal perhaps struggling to find the forms to cough up such a high fee in the midway point of the season. The reason behind Manchester United's discount price comes in Napoli interest in Alejandro Garnacho.

Arsenal and Chelsea interest in Napoli man

The Italian outfit are locked in a transfer race with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea for the 20-year-old, who is struggling for game time under Ruben Amorim. Manchester United are said to want £65 million for the forward but the two clubs entered talks on Tuesday with a potential return move for Osimhen to be discussed.

Chelsea have long been linked with the forward, who has plundered 14 goals already this season for Galatasaray, but nothing came of summer transfer talk. Meanwhile, Arsenal continue to be considering a deal for the striker.

That's according to Football Insider who claimed over the weekend that the Gunners are 'exploring the market for a late-window striker signing' with Osimhen still an option. The outlet added that contact had been made with Napoli over a 'sensational late deal'.

Mikel Arteta is short of options in attacking positions with Gabriel Jesus now having picked up a long-term injury. He joins Bukauo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri on the injury table.

Man Utd midfielder could play role in Osimhen destination

With regards to Garnacho, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla took to social media platform X on Tuesday afternoon to claim that talks between Napoli and Manchester United were underway to reach a 'solution' that would satisfy both clubs.

Corriere dello Sport are also on the story and claim that Napoli have submitted a €50 million bid, around £42 million, to Old Trafford. It adds that Garnacho has already spoken with former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who is now in charge of Napoli.

Garnacho has started just one Premier League match since mid December and had been subject to criticism from Amorim. The Red Devils boss said: “That is clear, he has talent.

“He needs to learn to play a little bit in a different position. He needs to play better inside. He improved a lot in the recovering position, when he doesn’t have the ball, but, doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions, like he was in the past, because I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to make the final third.

“So he’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving, during training. So he started the last game [at the Emirates Stadium], let’s see tomorrow.”
