Arsenal 'advancing' in transfer for Man Utd target as £30m man could quit Emirates Stadium
Manchester City and Manchester United have been courting a Norwegian teenager, but Arsenal are advancing in talks.
Arsenal full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is a January transfer target for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid with an enquiry sent to the Emirates Stadium this week.
That's according to the Daily Mail, with the outlet predicting a transfer race for the Ukraine international. The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium with both summer signing Riccardo Calafiori and youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly ahead of him in the pecking order.
Arsenal are looking to make moves in the final weeks of the window but it is attacking reinforcements that remain a priority with injuries to Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Ethan Nwaneri. It is expected that outgoings could be needed in order to make any investment viable before the close of the window.
Arsenal could green light £30m defender exit
Zinchenko signed for Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, having spent six years at the Etihad Stadium. During his time working under Pep Guardiola, the full-back transitioned into the left-back position and won four Premier League titles. The Gunners paid £30 million for his services.
The Daily Mail adds that Madrid are not the only side courting the experienced full-back this month. German outfit Borussia Dortmund are reported to have 'shown interest' but it is expected that the financial demands of a deal could prove problematic for the Bundesliga club.
The Evening Standard adds that Arsenal are 'open' the prospect of selling Zinchenko for the right price. The player is in the final 18 months of his contract in North London and there are yet to be talks over a possible extension.
Giving the green light to a Zinchenko exit would come at a time when Ben White is nearing fitness and a return to action. The former Brighton man hasn't played since November.
In an update this week, Arteta said: “Ben White recovery, very good. He hasn’t trained with the team yet but I think he’s very close. I think he will be with us very soon”.
Arsenal ‘advancing’ in transfer for Man Utd target
Arsenal are said to be 'advancing' in a deal for rising Norwegian star Sverre Nypan. The Athletic reports of progress in a transfer swoop for the 18-year-old, but that a move is 'far from certain'.
The Gunners have been tracking the teenager's development in recent times, alongside Manchester City and Manchester United. Nypan is a product of the Rosenborg academy and has turned heads since breaking into the first team in 2022.
The outlet reports that the Red Devils are out of the transfer race for the youngster and that Arsenal and Manchester City are now the frontrunners. Talks are ongoing between the clubs and representatives.
While Rosenborg would be an investment for the future, it is expected that he would immediately train with the Arsenal first team, however any confirmation of a deal remains a way away.
The player has spoken out about his future and previously hinted at an affinity for Manchester United. Speaking to a Norwegian podcast last year, he said: "It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United. I'm aware United has shown some interest. But I'm quite adamant that I don't want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead."
