Arsenal handed transfer windfall boost as two players attract interest and 'talks held'
Two Arsenal players are attracting interest as the end of the transfer window comes into sight.
Arsenal could be set for a transfer windfall boost amid interest in two of their players. The Gunners have been searching for an attacking option this month, a search that has, so far, come up short. The Gunners have been in need of another striker all season, a need that has been heightened by the loss of Gabriel Jesus through injury.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have also been left short out wide due to the loss of Bukayo Saka to injury for around two months. Arsenal are not rushing into any deals, though, with Mikel Arteta making it clear that he will only move to sign a player if the right opportunity comes up.
Asked over the weekend about the pressure of making a signing, Arteta said: “Not at the result at the moment. You look at the performances, I don’t know how many teams are playing at this level in the league. When you look at the bench, probably you say I think we are very short.”
On the flipside, exits have been few and far between at the Emirates Stadium this month, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see any before the end of the month. One player who could depart is veteran midfielder Jorginho, who is in the final months of his contract.
GE Global have reported that the 33-year-old midfielder’s home country club Flamengo have expressed an interest in a deal, holding initial talks, able to do so over a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer. But it’s added that Jorginho’s current wage demands are too high, meanwhile Arsenal are said to be willing to offer him another extension despite the fact the midfielder has rarely been deployed by Arteta this season.
Flamengo could look to snatch Jorginho away for a fee this month, a deal that would be cheaper if they can do it before any new contract is agreed, but it remains to be seen how much Arsenal would demand, and there is still a problem with the wages.
Tavares interest
Elsewhere, Nuno Tavares has been impressing out on loan with Lazio, and his performances are said to have sparked interest. According to CaughtOffside, a number of Serie A sides and Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Brighton are said to have shown interest in the full-back. Tavares has previously spent time on loan with the former.
