Arsenal injuries and return dates as 7 players sidelined after Aston Villa clash
A look at the latest Arsenal injuries as they turn their attention to the Champions League.
Arsenal suffered another setback in their Premier League title charge on Saturday, allowing a two-goal lead to slip and settling for a 2-2 draw with top four hopefuls Aston Villa.
Liverpool’s win earlier that day means they have re-established their six-point lead with a game in-hand. The Gunners now turn their attention to the Champions League and Dinamo Zagreb, and as they do, we have rounded up all the latest injury news surrounding the Gunners.
Gabriel Jesus - Knee
Gabriel Jesus has torn his ACL and will spend the rest of the season on the sidelines as a result. A statement confirmed: “Further to being substituted during our match with Man United, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the ACL in his left knee.”
Possible return date - Summer
Bukayo Saka - Hamstring
Saka will not return until late March at the earliest after having a procedure on his hamstring. Arteta has said: “He had a procedure. Everything went well. But unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks. I think it will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer.”
Possible return date - March 29
Ben White - Knee
White is in the back-end of his recovery after having a knee procedure a couple of months into the season. Arteta says White is still a few weeks away with an early February return likely.
Possible return date: February 2
Takehiro Tomiyasu - Knee
Tomiyasu is also looking at an early February return from a knee injury that has kept him out all season. Arteta said recently: “Tomi has done some stuff on the pitch, but we have to see. It has been a long-term injury, and we have to see how quick he progresses and how he reacts.”
Possible return date: February 2
Ethan Nwaneri - Hamstring
Nwaneri will be back in early February if he is lucky. The youngster suffered a hamstring injury over the festive period, with Arteta saying: “Unfortunately, he’s picked up a [muscular] injury and is going to be out for a few weeks.”
Possible return date: February 2
William Saliba - Muscular
Saliba missed the Villa game, and when asked about whether he knows how long the defender will miss, Arteta responded: “Not yet, I think tomorrow we will have more information, we will have more tests on him and we will be more clear about it.”
Possible return date: January 22/TBC
Riccardo Calafiori - Muscular
Calafiori should be close to returning, with Arteta saying: “We have a few decisions to make this afternoon with the medical staff to understand whether they are in the best condition for this game or the next one, so we'll decide that.”
Possible return date: January 22
