Arsenal now 'confident' of landing January transfer target this summer

Arsenal are said to be preparing to press ahead with a January target in the summer.

Arsenal are said to be ‘confident’ of landing one of their January transfer targets during the summer. The Gunners spent January pushing for an attacking signing, but they were unable to pull off a deal, with Mikel Arteta failing to find the right deal to strengthen his front line.

With the loss of Gabriel Jesus for the season and the loss of Bukayo Saka for at least a couple of months, Arsenal are struggling for options, and now it looks like Gabriel Martinelli could miss some time after appearing to pull up with a hamstring injury during the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United.

Having failed to land a new signing, Arteta will have to go with what he has between now and the end of the season, but new signings are very likely in the summer. As well as an attacking signing, it looks as though the Gunners will look to add a back-up option for Martin Odegaard. The Gunners skipper missed weeks early on in the season with an ankle injury, and Arsenal suffered greatly, highlighting their need for more adequate depth.

According to reports, Norwegian youngster Sverre Nypan is the chosen player, though Arsenal were not able to pull off a deal in January. A number of teams are said to have expressed an interest in the 18-year-old, but GiveMeSport say Arsenal are still confident they will beat the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester City to the deal.

The youngster is said to have carefully considered his future of late, and he reportedly travelled to England for a visit as he prepares to potentially make the move to the Premier League.

Nypan has already racked up 53 league appearances with current club Rosenborg, despite his youth, and he has scored 13 league goals from the attacking midfield spot. It’s expected he will cost around £10million in the summer, a fee Arsenal will comfortably be able to afford.
