Crystal Palace stadium guide: Everything home and away fans need to know visiting Selhurst Park

Selhurst Park is the home of Crystal Palace, and the design represents the progress that can be made when history is merged with modernity.

The stadium - which has a capacity of 25,456 - has two old stands and two newly-constructed stands that truly come alive during games.

The ground, which is tucked away between residential streets in South London, is known for having one of the best atmospheres in the Premier League.

Palace are currently in a transition period, and survival under new manager Patrick Vieira will be viewed as a massive success this season.

They got off to the worst possible start after suffering a 3-0 thumping at the hands of Chelsea on match day one.

Key player: Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha is fondly referred to as “Mr Palace”.

He is without doubt one of the most talented players in the league.

Blessed with a unique dribbling technique, Zaha continues to decide games on his own.

Last season, he played 29 league matches, and bagged 11 goals and two assists as Roy Hodgson’s side finished an impressive 14th.

They will need him to continue to go from strength to strength in this new look Crystal Palace side.

How to get to Selhurst Park

Selhurst Park is situated at the heart of Selhurst which is just 10 minutes walk from Thornton Heath and Norwood Junction train stations.

Trains run from Victoria Station and London Bridge Station, in Central London,to Thornton Heath and Norwood Junction frequently on match days.

Crystal Palace also encourages fans to ride bicycles to the stadium as they have storage available for free on request.

Fans can also catch 468 bus from Elephant and Castle and it drops you straight at the doorstep of the stadium.

Where to eat

Selhurst Park is located in quite a residential area, however there are several pubs and restaurants in Thornton Heath.

Tasty Jerk is a famous jerk chicken joint just opposite the stadium for fans who love spicy food.

There are a wide array of restaurants and bars on the Crystal Palace triangle, which is slightly further away from the ground.

Most fans staying overnight tend to stay in hotels in central London.

Tickets

Crystal Palace tickets can be bought online through the club’s website or at the ticket office at the stadium.

The club only sells match tickets to members so you will have to first buy membership before buying a match ticket.

Tickets range from as low as £27 to as high as £100, and it is one ticket per member.

Home pubs

The Clifton Arms is the most popular boozer close to Selhurst Park for home fans, and supporters will be able to enjoy a beer in the midst of fellow Eagles.

In Crystal Palace, fans often head to the White Hart or Westow House before the game.

Away pubs

Away fans used to flock to the Wetherspoons boozer Flora Sandes, however it sadly shut its doors in 2018.

The Railway Telegraph and the Prince George in Thornton Heath both accept away fans.

Covid guidelines

Social distancing is no longer required at Selhurst Park and fans do not have to get table service food and drinks in any more.

Fans may be be required to show proof of negative Covid test taken within the last 48 hours, or evidence of having taken both jabs of the vaccine on the NHS app.

This could become mandatory from October 1, and the Premier League is advising supporters to prepare for this.

The use of face covering is no longer required by law, but some clubs still advise they are worn when standing or moving away from your seat.
