Will there be a heatwave in London in April 2022? Met Office weather forecast for Easter explained

Meteorologists believe some parts of the United Kingdom will experience a heatwave in April.

Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist at the British Weather Services said he would not be surprised if some parts of the UK experienced temperatures as high as 28°C.

“I think hot weather could come in fairly early as far as April is concerned perhaps,” said Mr. Dale,

“I know March is the start of spring but I think we’re probably going to get properly into April before we start to see the searing sort of temperatures.”

He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see 26°C, 27°C, 28°C in the middle of April.

“Longer-term, given what’s happening globally in terms of the temperature profiles in the southern hemisphere and what’s also happening in the United States, I would not be surprised if we started to see some big highlights - in whichever direction it goes, either cold or hot.”

The weather for the first two weeks of April are largely what you would expect for London at that time of year, according to AccuWeather.

However, it should start to feel warmer in the week beginning April 18 - Londoners can expect to see several bright and slightly warmer than normal days with a maximum temperature of 18°C.

Thunderstorms are also forecast for the second half of April however it’s not all doom and gloom as the week beginning April 25 will see several more days of warm sunshine.

The daily maximum temperature in Bristol for April 2022 will vary between 11°C and 18°C - the average high and low temperatures for London in April are 15°C and 6°C respectively, according to the Met Office.

“Early mist and fog patches will soon clear to leave another fine and dry day, with plenty of sunshine.

“It will feel warm in the sunshine, with light winds. Maximum temperature 19 °C,” said the Met Office.

Tonight:

“After a fine day, it will be a dry night, with lengthy clear skies.

“A chilly night, with a patchy frost and perhaps a few fog patches forming in places. Minimum temperature 1 °C,” the Met Office added.

Friday:

“Early mist and fog patches soon clearing to leave another fine and dry day, with plenty of sunshine. Feeling warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

“Fine and settled, with warm sunny spells by day. Chilly nights, with patchy frost and fog. Increasing risk of low cloud for coastal areas over the weekend into next week,” the Met Office concluded.

UK long range weather forecast (Monday March 28 - Wednesday April 6)

“Still settled for many at the start of next week but a trend to showery and colder conditions is expected to take place from the north from Monday,” said the Met Office.

“Showers will likely be focused on northern and eastern areas, potentially wintry over northern hills and at lower levels in the far northeast.

“A good deal of dry weather persisting in the south and west,” the Met Office added.

“Potential for strong winds in the far northeast early in the period.

“Later next week and beyond, more unsettled conditions are likely with more frequent showers or longer spells of rain for many areas.

“After a spell of below average temperatures next week, temperatures are likely to return to near average later in the period.”

“The weather is likely to turn more unsettled in early April.

“Showers or longer spells of rain are more likely to be seen across the UK, although short drier and more settled interludes are still possible.

“Showers may be heavy at times, with thunder and hail,” said the Met Office.

“Moving into mid-April, there is a trend for a return to more settled weather again, although some rain and showers are still possible in places.

“Temperatures are likely to be near average, with the south and southeast on the slightly warmer side,” the Met Office added.
