Train and TfL Tube cancellations amid Storm Ciarán - King's Cross rail disruption and Underground chaos

National Rail is warning of cancellations, delays and disruption as Storm Ciarán hits London.

London train services have been severly impacted as Storm Ciarán strikes the UK.

Yellow weather warnings for rain and wind remain in place for London on Thursday (November 2), with amber warnings elsewhere in the country.

During the evening rush hour TfL's Hammersmith and City line was suspended due to a trespasser on the tracks and six other lines were facing delays. The Circle, District, Jubilee, Metropolitan and Piccadilly line were all impacted

National Rail said: "Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in some areas could affect journeys across Wales and the South of England today, and across the North East of England today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday. Some areas of Eastern Scotland may be affected as well throughout this week."

Storm Ciarán London travel disruption

Disruptions at Paddington Station

Trains travelling to and from Paddington Station are disrupted due to a points failure between Reading and London Paddington.

As a result, trains may be delayed by up to 25 minutes or revised. This is expected until 12pm.

Train disruptions continue on Friday November 3

Travel disruption due to Storm Ciaran has continued into Friday November 3.

London North Eastern Railway is urging customers to not travel today due to trains and crews being out of place.

Some trains are running today, subject to significant delays.

TfL is now reporting a good service on the District line.

As well as the Hammersmith & City line suspension, five other lines are facing delays:

  • Circle Line: Severe delays due to a trespasser on the track at Baker Street earlier. 
  • District Line: Severe delays between Earl's Court and Edgware Road due an earlier trespasser on the track at Baker Street.
  • Jubilee Line: Minor delays due to a shortage of trains.
  • Metropolitan Line: No service between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate southbound due to signal failure at Willesden Green. Severe delays on the rest of the line.
  • Piccadilly Line: No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge due to "difficult track conditions caused by significant leaf fall".

King's Cross to Peterborough - services affected

The following services are impacted by major disruption between Peterborough and King's Cross

  • Grand Central between Sunderland / Bradford Interchange and London King's Cross
  • Great Northern between Peterborough and London King's Cross
  • Hull Trains between Beverley / Hull and London King's Cross
  • LNER between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central / Sunderland / Harrogate / Hull / Skipton / Bradford Forster Square / Leeds / Lincoln Central and London King's Cross
  • Lumo between Edinburgh and London King's Cross
  • Thameslink between Peterborough and Horsham

Major disruption between King's Cross and Peterborough

A failure of the electricity supply between Peterborough and Huntingdon is causing major disruption to journeys running between Peterborough and London King's Cross.

As all lines are currently blocked, services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes.

Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

British Airways cancels flights

British Airways has cancelled 38 domestic and European flights from Heathrow Airport. Dutch airline KLM has also cancelled flights.

Heathrow said on its website: "For any delays with flights, we recommend keeping up to date with your airline. You can find airline contacts here".
