Passengers travelling to Heathrow airport next week will be faced with disruption due to planned strike action on the Heathrow Express.

RMT union members who work for the Heathrow Express will take part in a 48-hour strike from Monday September 23 to Tuesday September 24.

The union said this is in response to a pay offer that was overwhelmingly rejected by members.

“Despite multiple attempts to resolve the dispute, members will take action next week,” an RMT spokesperson said.

General Secretary Mick Lynch said: "Our members at Heathrow Express have made their position clear with a strong mandate for action. They are determined to secure fair pay and better working conditions.

"Heathrow Express management must now recognise the serious concerns of the workforce and return to the table with a meaningful offer."

The RMT union said it remains open to further negotiations, calling on Heathrow Express management to “improve their offer and avoid ongoing disruption”.

A Heathrow Express spokesperson said: "It is incredibly disappointing that RMT is planning strikes, but our well-planned contingencies are ready to go. Schedules will continue as normal, and we will keep our passengers moving safely and efficiently. There will be no disruption to Heathrow Express services as a result of this action."

Earlier this week Aslef union members at 16 train companies voted to accept a multi-year pay deal, ending a two-year dispute.

The offer was made by the new Labour Government within weeks of the party winning the general election.
