Thornton Heath fire: Firefighters tackle blaze in basement car park

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said a man and woman were both treated for smoke inhalation and the man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

A fire which broke out in south London this morning, has left one man in hospital.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire in what is belved to be the basement car park of aTesco on Parchmore Road in Thornton Heath at around 10am on Wednesday morning (January 18).

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said a man and woman were both treated for smoke inhalation and the man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

A further eight people self-evacuated with other residents remaining in their unaffected flats.

LFB said the blaze, which was attended by crews from West Norwood and surrounding fire stations, was under control by 11.53am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
