British singer Rex Orange County appeared in Southwark Crown Court on Monday, charged with sexually assaulting a woman on six separate occasions in London.

The court was told that the Rex Orange County singer sexually assaulted a woman, who is aged over 16, on two separate occasions in the West End of London on June 1. He is further accused of assaulting the woman four times the next day, including in a taxi and on three incidents at his Notting Hill home.

O’Connor pleaded not guilty to the allegations of intentional touching of a sexual nature without consent.

“Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” a representative for the musician said in a statement. “He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”

O’Connor had cancelled tour dates in July 2022, when he was scheduled to appear on a world tour of Europe, New Zealand and Australia. He released a statement on Twitter giving the reason for the cancellation as due to “unforeseen personal circumstances” and that he was “having to spend some time at home this year” and would “not be able to continue with touring as planned”.

“This is the last thing I want to do,” he wrote. “I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.”

O’Connor attended the BRIT School, which numbers Adele, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and actor Tom Holland among its top successes. In March, Mr O’Connor’s third studio album went to number one in the UK. He has also collaborated with artists such as Randy Newman and Chance the Rapper.
