After two years of pandemic restrictions, Eid al-Fitr celebrations returned to London at the weekend.

The Muslim community came out in their thousands to enjoy the festivities together in parks and centres across the city.

This year many remembered those who can't celebrate Eid this year due to the war in Ukraine.

On Friday evening thousands of Londoners from all faiths joined the mayor of London at an open iftar in Trafalgar Square.

Iftar is an evening meal which marks the end of they day's fast during the holy month where Muslim's give up eating and drinking during daylight hours to show their devotion to God.

The event was organised by the Ramadan Tent Project and included inspirational speakers and a call to prayer led by Imam Muhittin Aydin.

The London Eye was also illuminated with a special crescent moon light display on Monday evening to mark Eid al-Fitr.
