When is Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr immediately follows after the end of Ramadan. Ramadan this year ends on Sunday, 1 May, with Eid following on Monday, 2 May.

What is Eid al-Fitr?

Eid al-Fitr is one of two religious holidays in the Islamic calendar, and is a Muslim festival to signal the end of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr translates to “festival of breaking fast” and is celebrated worldwide. It is commonplace for celebrations to include gift giving, festive meals and social gatherings.

It is forbidden to fast on the day of Eid, however it is not unusual for some Muslims to fast for another six days after Eid. This is because there is a belief that a good deed in Islam is rewarded ten times. So another six days on top of the 30 days prior will create a year of good fortune.
