Love Actually fans excited as the cast reunite for 20th anniversary special - including Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant

Love Actually has shared a trailer of the cast reuniting to celebrate 20 years since the romantic comedy was released.

The Christmas favourite, which debuted in 2003, follows the complicated love lives of eight couples during the festive season and is based in Central London.

ABC presenter Diane Sawyer spoke to cast members Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Laura Linney, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Olivia Olson for an upcoming TV special.

The hour-long reunion show also features a special message from director and writer Richard Curtis and Martine McCutcheon.

Over 48,000 people have viewed the trailer for the reunion on YouTube and it has racked up hundreds of likes.

Emma Thompson is seen describing the ending of filming Love Actually, saying: “Hugh came up to me and said ‘wasn’t that the most psychotic thing we’ve ever been in.”

Hugh Grant revealed what he really thought of that iconic dance scene, saying: I saw it in the script and thought well I’ll hate doing that”. The actor, 62, added that it was his idea to have the secretary catch him dancing.

‘The Laughter & Secrets of Love Actually: 20 Years Later – A Diane Sawyer Special’ premiered on 29 November on ABC and UK viewers will be able to watch it on Amazon Prime.

London-born actor, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who was just age 13 when Love Actually premiered spoke about watching the film again.

“I didn’t even realise it had been 20 years. I watched it for the first time this past Christmas since the premiere, I’d forgotten how good it was,” Thomas said.

Fans of Love Actually took to social media to share their delight over the special episode, one wrote: “The #LoveActually reunion has left me with all the feels tonight. Love is all around”.

Another fan was quick to point out that there were a few faces missing from the special, commenting: “love actually cast reunion but where’s Colin Firth and Liam Neeson”.

Another main character missing from the reunion is the actor Alan Rickman, who sadly died from pancreatic cancer in 2016. He played Emma Thompson’s husband Harry in the film.

This isn’t the first time the cast has got back together to reprise their roles. In 2017, cast members got together for a Comic Relief special on Red Nose Day Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth and many more.
