Ed explained that during her pregnancy with their second daughter Jupiter, Cherry was diagnosed with a tumour that she couldn’t have treated until after she’d given birth. The childhood sweethearts are also parents to their two-year-old daughter Lyra Antarctica.

Ed revealed his new album, Subtract, was inspired by a “series of events” that changed his life.

Alongside Cherry’s health issues, Ed Sheeran also lost his dear friend, Jamal Edwards,31. The entrepreneur suffered a cardiac arrhythmia after taking recreational drugs in February 2022.

Jamal, who is the son of Loose Women presenter, Brenda Edwards, gained fame after setting up the music platform SBTV in 2006 and was credited with helping to launch a string of UK music acts to stardom, including Ed Sheeran and Jessie J.

Jamal’s mother, Brenda, revealed that Ed Sheeran had supported her and her daughter, Tanisha, in the aftermath of Jamal’ death, telling Good Morning Britain: “When Jamal passed, Ed was literally at my house with me and Tanisha for a whole week just looking after us.

Ed took to social media to discuss his mental health battles and how writing music has been his therapy.

“I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then at the start of 2022 a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art.

“Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. Within the space of a month my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour with no route to treatment until after the birth.
