Emergency services were called to a mid-terraced property and found the ground floor, first floor and roof of the house were alight.

One man had left the building before firefighters arrived and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

Several other houses have been evacuated and police have closed roads in the area.

A new 32-metre turntable ladder was used as a water tower, which helped firefighters extinguish the flames from outside.

Crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the afternoon.

A spokesperson said: “The brigade was called at 8.37am and the fire was under control by 10.30am.

“Fire crews from New Malden, Surbiton, Kingston, Wimbledon and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
