LondonWorld asked Mr Khan his favourite restaurants, hidden gem and unknown hero of the capital.

What is your favourite free pastime to do in London?

Sadiq Khan: London is the greatest city in the world and there are so many amazing things that people can do for free.

I love making use of the amazing green spaces in London.

I am lucky to live close to Tooting Common and really enjoy walking our dog Luna there.

What is your favourite place to eat in the capital?

When it comes to amazing food, London just cannot be beaten!

I recently launched London Eats, celebrating the very best culinary delights London has to offer.

From cheap street food eats to fine dining, food markets to drinks festivals – there really is something for everyone in our great city.

If I had to single out one place to eat, I would definitely recommend Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express on Garrick Street.

Asma has also played a vital role on my Recovery Board, highlighting the extraordinary contribution restaurants and cafes make to our city.

Can you reveal your favourite hidden gem in London?

It is not really a hidden gem, but you cannot beat a night out at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Bar.

And who is your little-known hero of London?

A person who I have got to know really well during the last 18 months is Professor Kevin Fenton, public health director for London.

Kevin has worked tirelessly to support the capital, providing vital expertise on how to combat the spread of the Covid-19, the vaccine rollout programme, the importance of wearing masks and much, much more.

We really are lucky to have Kevin working here in London and it is great to know that London can count on his unwavering support and expertise.
