London weather: This is when to expect the first snowfall of 2026 in the capital

This is the exact day it’s due to snow in London next month. It will also mark the first snowfall of 2026.

Londoners may be in for a wintry treat, as forecasts suggest frosty weather could make an appearance in the New Year.

Just days after the celebrations, the capital could see a dusting of snow on January 2, with chilly temperatures and light snow showers sweeping across the city.

BBC’s long-range weather forecast shows that in the early hours of January 2, sleet will fall across the city as temperatures drop to 2C.

While it probably won’t stick around for long and quickly turn to slush as the day goes on, many across the capital will no doubt be hoping more snow will follow.

It doesn't look like any more snow is on the way at the moment, but the Met Office has warned that cold weather in the new year could cause disruptions.

The meteorological service’s long-range forecast for January 2 onwards explains: “Given some relatively cold air close to the UK, this may bring the chance of some wintry hazards in places.”
