According to the latest weather reports, the storm is set to hit Greater London at around 3pm today (Friday 6th December) and last until 6am on Sunday (December 8th.)

The bulk of the rain and winds, which could reach speeds of 50mph in the capital, will hit on Saturday. As a result there may be some disruption to transport around London including the Underground.

There may be some delays to services.

Network Rail has said: “Strong winds and heavy rain from Storm Darragh today and tomorrow. Please check if your journey's affected with National Rail or your train operator. And tie down trampolines and garden furniture if you live near the railway!”

London is likely to escape the worst of the weather with winds of up to 80mph expected on the coast. A red weather warning has also been issued for Wales and parts of the West of the UK.

Many rail services were impacted this morning due to a nationwide signalling fault. Greater Anglia has said some services may continue to be disrupted over the weekend due to Storm Darragh.

The Met Office weather warning for London says: “It is likely that some roads and bridges could close, with impacts from falling trees. There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

“There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris. There is likely to be longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.”

London Fire Brigade has said: “Londoners please take extra care this weekend. Storm Darragh will bring strong winds and could cause isolated flooding between today and Sunday. Follow our advice: plan your journeys, never drive through floodwater, know what to do in flood.”
