London has topped the list as the region with the ‘least friendly pubs’ in the UK

So apparently, London pubs are the most ‘unfriendly’ in the UK.

This is according to newly released data from Get Licensed which analysed TripAdvisor reviews mentioning ‘unfriendly’ ‘hostile’ and ‘rude’ to determine which UK region pubs tend to be the least welcoming.

London tops the list as the region with the ‘least friendly pubs’, earning a friendliness score of just 0.56 out of 10.

Almost 24% of the area’s community pub reviews mention the words ‘unfriendly’, ‘hostile’, and ‘rude’, suggesting that the atmosphere might not be very welcoming.

But we’re sceptical and here’s why.

I don’t think I’ve ever been into a London pub and found it unwelcoming. Busy and expensive, sure, but not especially ‘hostile’. That said, I am trying to remember the last time I went into a ‘pub’ that wasn’t either going viral or in the City.

I’m certain that pubs in outer boroughs have a different atmosphere - for better or worse. And I can imagine that for an ‘outsider’ walking into a local boozer with a regular crowd could be a very overwhelming experience. Londoners are notoriously cliquey after all.

On the flipside, London pubs have been immortalised as some of the most down-to-earth places in the country, through shows like Only Fools and Horses, EastEnders and Minder (apart from the odd scrap of course.)

Reportedly the data also takes crime into consideration and the most ‘unfriendly’ pubs were all found in parts of London with high crime rates. The areas nearby to the pubs on the list also have an average median crime score of 543 out of 1,000, which is the third-highest of all analysed regions. So I suppose that could make things feel a bit unfriendly.
