According to a post on the official EastEnders Facebook page, members of the public may have been contacted by scammers acting as cast and crew.

The post has gained a lot of attraction, amassing more than 3,700 likes and hundreds of shares.

The post says: “Please note that no cast member or EastEnders employee will ever make contact to request money for meetings, messages, set visits and other interactions.

“If you have been contacted, especially on social media via a direct message or mass message posted to a group, please ensure you report these instances to the relevant platform immediately.”

Fans have jumped into the comments to confirm they have been contacted by ‘cast members’.

One fan wrote: “I have received a few responses to my comments, from a supposedly cast member. A couple responses were on the FB and the last one was sent to my messenger obviously I didn’t respond, just in case.”

While another wrote: “I reported it to EastEnders when someone claiming to be George messaged me asking me to send him money to a PayPal account for a bottle of wine. It was George’s photo and he was very pleasant but soon as I told him he was being reported, the account got deleted.”

A third person said: “I got comments from the actors who play Ravi, Jay, Phil and someone being Nish commented/liked my comment. Phil and the actor who plays Jay actually (Jamie Birthwick) private messaged me because I knew it wasn't them. When Steve Mcfadden (Phil) commented I got really excited but then I realised it wasn't actually him.”

The soap, which is set in London’s East End, has aired on BBC One since 1985 and has a cult following of loyal fans.

If you are targeted by a scammer impersonating an EastEnders cast member, make sure to report it immediately and crucially don’t give out any information online.
