Food banks operate as a lifeline for Londoners who can’t afford to feed their families over Christmas

Food banks across London are facing unprecedented demands as households struggle to make ends meet.

There are more than 50 food banks scattered across the capital, many of which are part of the Trussell Trust network.

According to National Debt Line 6.5 million people across the UK will struggle to heat their homes.

While 2.7m people face the impossible choice between buying food or gifts for their family.

Several London food banks will stay open throughout the Christmas week, for emergency supplies.

Trussell Trust’s Tower Hamlet’s food bank provides essential supplies to vulnerable families.

Brixton Food Bank also continues to support families in South London over Christmas.

Whitechapel Mission operates daily throughout the year, including Christmas and New Year. It offers free breakfasts, showers, clothing, and access to advice workers.

In over 600 communities across the UK, including London, The Salvation Army provides Christmas food parcels to families struggling to afford a proper Christmas lunch.

It also offers beds for 3,000 people every night in 81 residential hostels and provides practical support such as hot food and clothing.
