Fire breaks out at Canning Town recycling plant

A fire broke out at a recycling plant in Canning Town in the early hours of this morning, causing several road closures in the area.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to the East London Metal and Waste Recycling. in Bidder Street, Newham, at around 3am.

The London Fire Brigade tackled the blaze, where a large area of recycling, made up of scrap household appliances, was completely alight.

The fire was under control by 6.26am and there were no injuries reported.

Fire crews from Poplar, Plaistow, Stratford, Millwall, Shadwell and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area as there are road closures in place.

The Bidder Street junction with Stephenson Street has restricted access at the moment.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
