“Daniel Anjorin was a very loved boy in the local community who was always full of happiness and joy and very much loved by everybody he came across.”

Over £80,000 has been raised for the family of schoolboy Daniel Anjorin, who was killed in a sword attack in Hainault.

Daniel, 14, was on his way to school at Bancroft’s School in Woodford Green on Tuesday morning April 30 when he was attacked.

Kwasi Asare, a friend of Daniel’s brother, has launched a Gofundme page for the “very loved” schoolboy’s family.

“Daniel Anjorin was a very loved boy in the local community who was always full of happiness and joy and very much loved by everybody he came across,” wrote Mr Asare.

“On April 30, 2024, as he was going to school he was ruthlessly attacked and unfortunately passed from the injuries he sustained.

“He was only in Year 9 and was a loved student at Bancroft’s in Woodford. He meant so much to a lot of people and will be dearly missed.

“I would like to raise money for his family on behalf of his family as his brother is one of my close friends to help them with the costs of everything so please donate whatever you can donate. Would be very much appreciated!”

One supporter wrote: “I cannot express my deep sadness of hearing this news. What a beautiful child taken away from this world too soon. I wish you nothing but strength and comfort during this difficult time.”

Gerdien Stevense wrote: “Dear Anjorin family, I feel so very sorry for you. What a tragedy. I was moved by Daniel's picture. He looks like such a friendly, smart and lovely boy. He radiates kindness. What a loss.”

Daniel was a student at £23,000-a-year private school Bancroft’s - the same school Nottingham attack victim Grace O’Malley-Kumar attended before university.

In a statement on X, the school wrote: “We are devastated by the heartbreaking news of the death of Daniel Anjorin who attended our school. This has left us in profound shock and sorrow.

“Daniel joined Bancroft’s at seven years old and quickly became a core member of our community. He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits.

“His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us. Losing such a young pupil is something we will always struggle to come to terms with.

“We are now doing all we can to support our entire community through this most painful situation. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Daniel’s family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Transport for London (TfL) has also issued a statement in support of Daniel’s father, Dr Ebenezer Anjorin, who works for the transport body as a health and safety expert.

Andy Lord, London’s transport commissioner, said: “We are devastated that one of our colleagues, and their family, are grieving the appalling loss of their son after the horrific attack in Hainault.

“We are working with the Metropolitan Police to provide every assistance and whatever support we can to our colleague and their family in such tragic circumstances.”

Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, 36, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday May 2 charged with Daniel’s murder.

Police were called shortly before 7am on Tuesday April 30 to Laing Close after receiving reports that a man had crashed a van into the fence of a house and people had been stabbed.

Five people, including two police officers, were taken to hospital, where Daniel later died.

Police say the incident “took place in a number of locations”, but that a 33-year-old man was struck when a van crashed into a property in Laing Close. The Met says he was then attacked and suffered a wound to his neck.

Another man, aged 35, suffered lacerations to his arm when he was attacked inside a nearby property before Daniel was attacked.

Mr Monzo, from Newham, east London has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation, said earlier: “This is an incredibly tragic incident that has resulted in a young boy losing his life and his family devastated. On behalf of the family, I would ask that their privacy is respected.

“This is a complex investigation due to the number of crime scenes, forensic evidence, hours of CCTV footage and witnesses we need to speak to. I know that many people will want answers and we are working to provide them as soon as we can. I would also echo previous calls for patience as my officers carry out a painstaking investigation to deliver justice for Daniel, his family, those injured and the wider community.

“We are starting to build a picture of what happened on Tuesday and I want to thank everyone who has come forward to share dashcam, doorbell and mobile phone footage with us.

“Likewise, thank you to witnesses, who were no doubt terrified by what they saw, and who have made vital contributions to our investigation. Anyone who has not yet spoken to police and has any information should contact us as soon as possible.”
