Police were called shortly before 7am on Tuesday (April 30) to Laing Close after receiving reports that a man had crashed a van into the fence of a house and people had been stabbed.

Five people, including two police officers, were taken to hospital, where Anjorin later died.

Police say the incident “took place in a number of locations”, but that a 33-year-old man was struck when a van crashed into a property in Laing Close. The Met says he was then attacked and suffered a wound to his neck.

Another man, aged 35, man suffered lacerations to his arm when he was attacked inside a nearby property before Daniel was attacked.

Officers used Pava incapacitant spray and Taser to try to detain a man, but they “had limited impact”. Two officers were attacked and sustained injuries for which they will require “long-term rehabilitation”.

Police say the suspect fled to Thurlow Gardens and a Taser was used to overpower him. He was arrested before being taken to hospital “due to injuries from the crash”. He is now in police custody.

The Met says no trace has been found of “a prior incident” despite talk online.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident that has resulted in a young boy losing his life and his family devastated. On behalf of the family, I would ask that their privacy is respected.

“This is a complex investigation due to the number of crime scenes, forensic evidence, hours of CCTV footage and witnesses we need to speak to. I know that many people will want answers and we are working to provide them as soon as we can. I would also echo previous calls for patience as my officers carry out a painstaking investigation to deliver justice for Daniel, his family, those injured and the wider community.”

He said detectives are “starting to build a picture of what happened” and thanked people who have shared dashcam, doorbell and mobile phone footage.

“Likewise, thank you to witnesses, who were no doubt terrified by what they saw, and who have made vital contributions to our investigation. Anyone who has not yet spoken to police and has any information should contact us as soon as possible.”

The Met says officers were at the scene in 12 minutes and a man was detained in 22 minutes.
