Maher Maaroufe, 22, of no fixed address, has been charged with murdering Sabita Thanwani at her central London university halls, and assaulting an emergency servces worker.

A man has been charged with the murder of 19-year-old student Sabita Thanwani.

Maher Maaroufe, 22, of no fixed address, has been charged with murdering Ms Thanwani at her central London university halls, and assaulting an emergency services worker.

He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court later today (Tuesday, March 22).

Met Police officers and medics were called to Arbour House in Sebastian Street at about 5.10am on Saturday, March 19, where Ms Thanwani was found suffering serious injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as sharp force trauma to the neck.

Her family are being supported by specialist officers.

Enquiries continue.
