He was remanded in custody to attend the Old Bailey on Monday.

In the early hours of Wednesday, a man attended a south London police station, claiming to have harmed a woman at an address on Parbury Road.

While formal identification awaits, police confirmed a body found was that of 32-year-old Tia Simmonds, who lived at the address.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Webb, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “As I have previously stated, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this murder. This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain with Tia’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time.” The Met Police said Tia’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held at Greenwich Mortuary today (Friday January 5).
