Kew Gardens will be closed today due to strong wind and heavy rain

One of London’s best-loved festive events, Christmas at Kew, has been cancelled due to severe weather caused by Storm Darragh.

The beloved event, which sees the iconic Kew Gardens decorated with spectacular light installations, will not take place as winds of up to 50mph hit the capital.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for London, which came into effect yesterday afternoon. It will last until 6am on Sunday.

A statement posted by Kew Gardens on Instagram last night said: “Unfortunately, Kew Gardens will be closed tomorrow [tonight], December 7th due to severe weather. Christmas at Kew will also be cancelled tomorrow evening. Ticketing providers will be in touch with more information. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The Kew Gardens website says: “Due to the adverse weather conditions on Saturday 7 December 2024, Kew Gardens and Wakehurst will be closed. In addition, Christmas at Kew and Glow Wild have unfortunately been cancelled.”

Christmas at Kew joins Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, which will also close today due to the weather.

The Met Office has said strong winds associated with Storm Darragh are likely to lead to some disruption and damage.
