Aldwych: Nine people in hospital after man crashes into people queueing at bus stop

A car collided into several pedestrians in central London this morning, leaving nine people in hospital.

Police were called at 3.35am on Sunday October 29 to reports of a car in collision with a number of pedestrians at a bus stop in Aldwych.

The London Ambulance Service rushed nine people, including the driver, to hospital following the crash.

A man, in his 20s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A Met Police spokesperson added: “Enquiries into the circumstances continue.

“At this stage, the incident is not being treated as terror related.”

It is not yet known the condition of the eight wounded pedestrians but police confirmed the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Aldwych is now closed in both directions between Waterloo Bridge and Kingsway, as a police cordon is in place. Bus routes are currently on diversion, please check your journey before you travel.
