Christmas isn’t Christmas without turkey (for meat eaters anyway) and what better way to celebrate the annual festive event than sharing a lovely meal with family and friends?

For shoppers planning their festive menus already there are a range of choices when it comes to purchasing a festive bird.

In London there is a range of options from high-end butchers selling hand-reared and organic birds to high street supermarkets selling more affordable options.

We’ve rounded up the most expensive and the cheapest turkeys available to buy in London this festive season.

Luxury birds

C Lidgate butchers in Holland Park

The priciest turkey on sale at C Lidgate butchers in Holland Park is going for a whopping £318.10.

For affluent families really wanting to put on a show the 12.5kg to 13 kg free-range bronze turkey is the most expensive product listed on their website.

You can purchase a 2.5 to 3 kg bird for £73.55 but at £24.50 a kilo this falls outside most average Londoners' budgets.

Sustainable butchers Ginger Pig, which has eight shops throughout London has a number of luxury options on offer.

Its most expensive offering this Christmas is the free range bronze turkey which is on sale from £110.25 to £220.50 depending on size.

The turkeys are “reared on a completely natural diet of homegrown wheat and vegetable protein” and are “dry-plucked by hand.” An organic feast for Christmas day.

Godfreys butchers in Highbury

Godfreys butchers in Highbury is selling free range bronze turkeys from £90.98 to £220.98 from 3 kg to 11 kg.

 ​​​​​​​​​​​​”Hatched at the beginning of summer and encouraged to run wild in large countryside fields until Christmas”, these turkeys are available for order for both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Cheaper options

Lidl and Aldi

Lidl and Aldi are tied for cheapest fresh turkey, at £3.75 per kilogram.

The Lidl Birchwood medium turkey, which is in store from December 19 is being sold at £18.75 for a 5kg bird, which roughly feeds eight to ten people.

The Aldi Ashfields British medium turkey is on sale from December 19 for £18.75 for a 5kg bird.

Morrisons

The next most affordable option for a medium turkey is at Morrisons, which is selling a medium bird for £18.95 - £3.79 per kilogram.

Tesco and Asda are both selling medium turkeys for £5 per kg, with a 5kg turkey costing £25. Options for frozen and rolled turkeys are available.
