With some of its well-known destinations having already switched their light displays on, festive markets have started to pop up around the city.

We visited the Southbank Centre’s Winter Market along the River Thames to get into the festive spirit.

The market which brings cosy wooden chalets, warming street food and hot toddies, and cute arts and crafts to the South Bank opened on November 2 and will run till December 26.

Some of the street food on offer includes truffle burgers, duck wraps, lobster rolls or gourmet cheese toasties and winter classics like fondue and raclette.

The market is part of the Southbank Centre’s Winter Festival which includes a Love Actually variety show - Christmas Actually - curated by Richard Curtis himself, a rendition of The Nutcracker at the Royal Festival Hall, and an art exhibition showcasing the artistic talent of people in prisons and other justive institutaions.

The Winter Festival will run until January 7 and you can find the full programme of events on the Southbank Centre’s website.
