Michelin Guide: Three London pubs added to favourites list in February

Great midweek lunch menus and reasonably priced roasts are the common denominator.

The days of pubs offering up microwaved pie and chips are long behind us (thankfully), with a lot of the most on-trend kitchens opening in traditional drinking venues, either as pop-ups or permanent residencies.

Michelin has, of course, noted this and this month added three London pubs to its favourite eating establishments.

If you’re after a dining experience that will leave you thoroughly satisfied, but don’t want to go through the ceremony of getting dressed up, then these chilled eateries should be just the ticket.

The Baring - Islington

The Baring is the king of the midweek lunch special, with a rotating menu of meals for £12 that can be paired with a glass of house red or white for £15. In this economy, and given the quality of produce being served up, you’d be foolish to give this gastropub a swerve.

The European eatery looks just like a standard boozer from the outside and in, perhaps, but it’s the magic going on in the kitchen that will have you bragging to friends and coming back next weekend.

The Holland - Kensington

The Holland prides itself on sourcing its ingredients sustainability and turning them into delightful British dishes for your taste buds. The Sunday lunch menu is well priced, with a beef rump for £24 and pollock with oyster sauce for £17.50.

The set lunch menu from Wednesday to Saturday (served from 12-6pm) is also generous in proffering two courses for £15, or three for £20. You can’t say fairer than that in a pub just a stone’s throw from Kensington High Street.

The Pelican - Notting Hill

A pub that also hosts pilates classes is the type to draw derision from non-Londoners, but the food being served up by this All Saints Road boozer makes it a must visit. The beef and Guinness pie is a particular favourite among patrons, and there’s a wide selection of draft beers with which to pair your stout flavoured pastry, if you so wish.

The Pelican is the perfect watering hole to revive your spirits after a day’s shopping on Portobello Road, with a lovely range of British bar snacks if you don’t fancy a full meal (but we’d recommend you find room...).
