The cost-of-living crisis has led to a rise in the number of people putting up their pets for adoption as they can no longer afford to care for them properly.
And this follows the Covid pandemic, when many households adopted puppies in lockdown but then needed to rehome them once they started returning to work.
The result of all this is that there are many dogs up for adoption, with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home constantly taking in pooches with the hope of finding them good and loving homes.
If you’re in a position to be able to take on the caring responsibilities and cost of having a dog, then there are some great four-legged friends in this list that could be the perfect fit.
It’s a good idea to research the breed you’re choosing thoroughly before you decide to give them a home, and remember that each dog has their own personality traits as well.
Battersea can recommend the type of dogs that would work in certain homes, including the age of children they’d suit or whether they need to be the only dog in the house.
Here are five pooches that are looking for a home right now, with all within driving distance of London if you’re to pick them up:
1. Marley
Marley is a one-year-old cocker spaniel who’s spent almost a year at Battersea. He enjoys being fussed over by his carers, but is equally happy playing with his toys to keep himself entertained. Marley is particularly fond of tennis balls and has become adept at games of fetch and hide and seek. This cocker spaniel would prefer to live somewhere quiet away from busy roads.
2. Rocky
Rocky is a three-year-old old tyme bulldog who came to Battersea because his owners could no longer care for him. He was quite worried when he initially arrived at the charity, but has shown more of his loveable personality as he’s settled in. Rocky is looking for patient owners who can give him the care and affection he deserves.
3. Twinke
Twinkle is a one-year-old greyhound who is excitable and loves to greet people with a bounce and some toe tapping. She likes to play with her toys, but is equally happy lounging in bed or going for a chilled walk. Twinkle would need a home with a secure garden and to be the only pet in her abode.
4. Wilson
Wilson is a four-year-old lurcher who’s spent almost six months at Battersea. His pastimes include gathering an impressive amount of toys in his bed after a long day of play. Wilson is a big foodie and this has been a big part of his training at the charity, with owners sought who can continue to build his confidence.
