Here’s when you should receive primary school place offers, information on how to accept an offer and how to appeal a decision.

What’s the application process?

Applications for primary schools in London should have been made by January 15, 2022.

Parents were able to apply for schools in any London borough, with a maximum of six schools allowed.

Parents listed schools in the order of preference.

How do schools decide who gets in?

If the applicant has a brother or sister that goes to the school they are applying for, they are given priority.

If a child is under care by the local authority, they are also given the highest priority.

Where your child lives also matters. If the child lives close to the school, they have a very good chance of getting in.

Applications submitted before the deadline will be given priority over submissions received late.

Late applications could impact upon how likely your child is to receive the offer of a place at his or her preferred primary school in London.

When do I find out my child’s primary school place in London?

National Offers Day 2022 for primary schools in London is Tuesday, April 19.

If you applied online, you will receive an email informing you of your offer on the day, or a text telling you where to go online.

If you didn’t apply online, your letter will be sent to you on April 19, 2022.

How do I accept an offer?

If you didn’t apply online, the City of London School Admissions Service will tell you via a letter which schools have offered your child a place, and it will also include what you need to do in order to accept the offer.

If you applied online, you can accept an offer via an acceptance form on the Admissions portal, which is a nationwide portal used to apply for school places online.

To find out more about eAdmissions, and how it works, you can visit their website.

The London Schools Admissions team must receive your response by Monday, May 2 or your child’s offer of a place could be offered to another applicant.

How do I appeal a decision?

If you’re not happy with the outcome of the application, you have the right to appeal.

Contact the school you want to appeal against as soon as possible. They will give you information on their appeal process - such as what you need to provide and when.

You will then present your appeal, which will be heard in May, June or July.

London City Council advises you to still accept an offer, so that if your appeal is unsuccessful, your child will still have the offer of a place.

Accepting an offer will not affect your appeal.

To find out more on the appeals process, look at the primary school guide provided by London City Council.
