London schools term times 2023/2024: All this year’s school holiday dates and bank holidays

All of the term dates, half term dates and bank holidays for London families in 2023/24.

There is still plenty of summer to go, but in preparation for another school year, here are all the term dates, half terms and bank holidays in London for 2023/24.

School terms vary to some degree around the country, and parents should be aware that governors of academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools set their own dates.

Check with the specific school if in doubt.

Autumn term 2023

  • Term dates: Monday September 4 to Thursday December 21, 2023.
  • Half term: Monday October 23 to Friday October 27.
  • Christmas holiday: Friday December 22 to Friday January 5, 2024.

Spring term 2024

  • Term dates: Monday January 8 to Thursday March 28, 2024.
  • Half term: Monday February 12 to Friday February 16.
  • Easter holiday: Friday March 29 to Friday April 12.

Summer term 2024

  • Term dates: Monday April 15 to Wednesday July 24, 2024.
  • May Day: Monday May 6.
  • Half term: Monday May 27 to Friday May 31.
  • Spring Bank Holiday: Monday May 27.

The above schedule sets out 195 days. Schools select five days as inset training days.

Bank holidays

This year Christmas Day (December 25) falls on a Monday, with Boxing Day (December 26) also a bank holiday on the Tuesday.

New Year’s Day is a Monday and a bank holiday.

Good Friday is March 29 in 2024 and Easter Monday is April 1.

The May Day bank holiday is Monday May 6, 2024; the spring bank holiday is Monday May 27; and the August bank holiday is Monday August 28, 2024.
