London’s biggest model railway show returns to Ally Pally for train-filled weekend

One of London’s most historic hobby events is returning to Alexandra Palace this March, as the London Festival of Railway Modelling celebrates its 25th year at the iconic venue.

The two-day exhibition, taking place on 21 - 22 March, will bring together railway enthusiasts, families and curious visitors for a weekend dedicated to the craft of model railways.

Inside Ally Pally’s grand exhibition halls, visitors will find more than 40 detailed model railway layouts, recreating everything from rural branch lines to busy city rail networks. The displays are selected by The Model Railway Club, one of the world’s oldest railway modelling societies.

A hobby event drawing visitors from across London

While the show has long been popular with dedicated modellers, organisers say it also attracts plenty of newcomers who simply want to see the intricate layouts up close.

Alongside the displays, more than 90 retailers and specialist suppliers will be attending, selling modelling equipment, collectables and railway accessories. Demonstrations and advice sessions will also run throughout the weekend.

Emily Warner, Head of Marketing for World of Railways Shows, said the anniversary makes this year’s show particularly special.

“Railways have shaped London for generations, and the capital has always had a special relationship with trains and transport.

“Working in partnership with The Model Railway Club - one of the world’s oldest model railway societies, founded in 1910 - this event celebrates that rich heritage and the enduring appeal of the hobby.

“Marking 25 years at Alexandra Palace makes this year particularly special, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring together enthusiasts, families and visitors to experience model railways at their very best.”
