Southwark residents will experience some changes to their usual bin collection dates over the festive period.

During Christmas and New Year, some bin collections will run a day or two behind, so it’s important to know how this will affect you and your household.

Southwark Council has provided a list of revised bin collection dates ahead of the holiday season being in full swing.

Recycling your real Christmas tree – and how to get it collected for free

Southwark Council has also announced that it can collect and recycle Christmas trees for free.

To meet the criteria, trees should not be taller than 5ft and any taller trees should be chopped into smaller pieces.

Any decorations should be removed, as well as pots or stands.

Residents who have garden waste collection can leave their tree outside their homes on collection day. Residents who do not have a garden waste collection can still request a free collection, and trees can also be taken to Southwark’s Reuse and Recycling Centre which is in Peckham.

For those residents who live in flats, trees are to be left outside on the kerb and not in a bin store so it’s easily visible for collection crews.

Christmas tree collections will be available to book from December 22.
