Crime on the rise in Croydon, official figures show
Crime has risen over the last year in Croydon, official police records reveal.
The Met Police recorded 33,897 offences in Croydon in the 12 months to March, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Hide AdThat was an increase of 6% compared to the previous year, when there were 31,867.
However, at 87.2 crimes per 1,000 people, that was slightly lower than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 89.3.
Of the crimes recorded in the area over the last 12 months, 1,179 were sexual offences – an increase of 16% from the year before.
Meanwhile, violent crime has risen in the area, from 10,918 to 11,629 over this period.

Hide AdOne of the main factors behind this increase was the rise in violence with injury, which rose by 9%, from 3,409 incidents to 3,728.
And theft offences rose by 11%, with 11,936 incidents recorded in the 12 months to March.
At 30.7 crimes per 1,000 people, that was higher than the rate across England and Wales, which stood at 25.1.
