Westminster City Council confirms all the bin collection date changes for Christmas and New Year

Westminster City Council has confirmed bin collection dates for this Christmas and New Year season.

The council said there will be no kerbside collection on Christmas Day, which is a Thursday. Residents whose regular bin day is a Thursday will instead have a special collection on Saturday, December 27.

There are no changes to collections on Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. If you have multiple collections a week for mixed recycling or household rubbish, you will not receive a special collection on Saturday, December 27. Instead, residents are being advised to use other regular collections that week.

There will be no on-demand food waste service on Christmas Day. This impacts residents living in suitable properties in St James’s, Marylebone and West End wards.

Collection slots are available as normal for all other days during the festive period. Residents are being urged to use local neighbourhood food waste bins located in:

  • Luxborough Street junction with Marylebone Road
  • Marylebone High Street (next to The St Marylebone CE School/Cavendish Health Centre) micro-recycling centre
  • Marylebone Road opposite Council House/outside Old Town Hall
  • Moxon Street junction with Aybrook Street
  • Paddington Street, opposite Paddington Street Gardens/Chiltern Place, micro-recycling centre
  • Weymouth Street junction with Great Portland Street (157 Weymouth Street) micro-recycling centre
  • Wigmore Street junction with Welbeck Street

Recycling your real Christmas tree

Residents looking to get rid of their real Christmas tree are being urged to visit any of the borough’s more than 25 recycling points. You can find a list of these drop-off points at the bottom of this article.

You can take your tree to a drop-off point from Saturday, December 27, to the end of the day on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Opening hours are 8am to 8pm unless they are in parks, which close at 4.30pm, according to Westminster City Council’s website .

Remove all decorations, stands and netting from the tree before bringing it to a recycling point. Trees taken to recycling points will be turned into woodchip and soil improver.

There will be no garden waste collections on Christmas Eve or on New Year’s Eve. If you want your real Christmas tree to be collected, leave it outside if you:

  • Live in Queen’s Park ward and have already signed up to the garden waste trial and your collection date is Wednesday, January 7 only
  • Live in Abbey Road ward and have already signed up to the garden waste trial and your collection date is Wednesday, January 14 only

Crews will only collect trees up to 10 feet in size. All decorations must be removed and the tree placed next to your garden waste sacks.
