Worm Moon 2026: Best time and places to see the March full moon in London tonight

Where Londoners can head to see the Worm Moon in the capital tonight.

London will have a special glow tonight (March 3) as the Worm Moon takes over the capital’s skies.

The full moon is named after the humble earthworm, as it comes at a time when they typically start to reappear in the soil.

For other parts of the world, it will be known as a Blood Moon because of the rusty hue that it takes due to our atmosphere filtering out blue light.

It will be the third full moon of the year following February's Snow Moon and the Wolf Moon in January.

While those in high-rise buildings could be lucky enough to see the lunar spectacle from their window, others can head to high points across the city to get a look.

Here’s everything Londoners hoping to see the Worm Moon in the capital need to know.

How to see the 2026 March Worm Moon in London

The Moon will hit peak illumination at 11.37am on Tuesday, March 3, but skywatchers can expect a stunning display on both Monday and Tuesday evening. Across the UK, moonrise is set to take place between 5.40pm and 5.50pm, offering the perfect window to catch it glowing on the horizon.

Those hoping to get a glimpse of the Worm Moon in London won’t have to worry about getting a telescope, as it will be visible by the naked eye. However, both weather and light pollution could end up obstructing the lunar spectacle.

While the capital is one of the most light-polluted spots in the country, it’s still possible to stargaze.

City dwellers may be able to catch a glimpse of the Worm Moon if they head to a higher vantage point, such as a rooftop or even a local park.

There are a number of spots throughout London in which locals and visitors may be able to see it.

One of the most renowned places is Morden Hall Park in South London but both Primrose Hill and Greenwich Park could also offer clear views.
