A date for Eid al-Fitr 2024 has been announced following the expected sighting of the new crescent moon in London this evening (April 9).
The sighting of a crescent moon marks the start of a new month on the Islamic calendar. If a crescent moon is spotted tonight it will also mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr signifies the end of Ramadan's daily fasting from dawn until dusk and sees those celebrating host feasts and gatherings, including both prayer and gift-giving.

The East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre have confirmed that this year’s Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (April 10) following the expected crescent moon this evening.

Westfield London
The White City shopping centre will host Eid celebrations this weekend from Friday (April 12) to Sunday (April 14). Festivities will include live entertainment as well as an array of stalls to browse and activities to take part in.

Westfield Stratford
The Westfield shopping centre in Stratford is also set to have its own Eid celebrations the following weekend. The east London spot will host festivities from April 19 to April 21.

Eid in the Square 2024
Returning to Trafalgar Square for its 19th year, The Mayor of London’s free, annual festival will also celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
